Nominees for PPL’s Most Played New Independent Act revealed

Last night (6th August), XFM’s John Kennedy announced the AIM Independent Music Awards shortlist to an audience of artists, press and record labels alike.

In support of the awards, we attended the nomination party in London’s exclusive West End venue, the Gibson Guitar Studios, to find out the five nominees in the PPL sponsored category ‘Most Played New Independent Act’.

This highly credible category is compiled by using PPL data; supplied by UK television and radio stations, online radio services and hundreds of thousands of public sites using music in their business. The worthy acts were revealed as:

  • The 2 Bears (Southern Fried)
  • Alabama Shakes (Rough Trade)
  • Alt-J (Infectious)
  • Django Django (Because Music)
  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Macklemore LLC)

Lara Baker, AIM's Marketing and Events Manager, spoke to us: "2013 marks the third AIM Independent Music Awards, and interest in the awards has grown hugely since our first event.  We decided this year to do the nominations announcement justice with a launch party for press and nominees, and it was fantastic to have XFM presenter and fierce champion of independent music John Kennedy along to reveal the nominees.  It was a fantastic night, and we're looking forward to honouring the winners!”

The AIM Independent Music Awards celebrate the diversity and creativity of independent artists. Winners will be announced by BBC’s Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens on the 3rd September at The Brewery in Clerkenwell.
