Date announced of 2013 PPL Annual Performer Meeting

This year, the number of Elected Performer Directors on the PPL Performer Board will increase from two to three. As such, there will be elections for two Elected Performer Directors at the meeting: one to fill the vacancy created by one of the current Elected Performer Directors stepping down and one to fill a new, additional position.

This new position follows the changes made into the main PPL Board structure which were voted through at the company’s AGM in June 2013. The new Performer Director will be voted in by performers at the meeting and, once elected, will sit on the main PPL Board as well as the company’s dedicated Performer Board. This will take the total number of PPL Performer Directors to five, with the other two being nominated by British Actors’ Equity and the Musicians’ Union respectively.

“After many healthy discussions, it has been agreed that the constitution of the PPL main board will change to allow a further elected Featured Performer Director to sit on the Board,” said Gerald Newson Chairman PPL Performer Board.  “We have worked towards this over the years and are now in a good position to represent even better record companies and performers in respect of the rights that PPL manages on their behalf.”

PPL’s constitution requires that, at each APM, the longest serving Elected Performer Director on the PPL Performer board must step down and an election must be held to fill the vacancy. The incumbent director may stand for re-election but Eligible Performers may also nominate alternative candidates to stand in the election. This year Mark Kelly is the Elected Performer Director due to step down as a result of this process. He will also stand for re-election.

Under PPL’s constitution, the APM is for those performers registered with PPL and who have received PPL income in the preceding two years (in this case, 2011 and/or 2012). Those performers eligible to attend this invitation only meeting will be contacted in mid-October. This will include details of the process for nominating election candidates. The full list of candidates standing for the two Elected Performer Director positions will be confirmed and published on Wednesday 13 November 2013.

“As I said at the PPL AGM in June, when this issue was voted on, this is a significant change in the PPL Board structure,” said Peter Leathem Chief Executive Officer, PPL. “For PPL it is the continuation of the journey we started seven years ago with the merger of two performer CMO’s with PPL and I know the two Boards, the PPL main Board and the Performer Board, will continue to be as effective as ever and able to serve the membership with even greater clarity and effectiveness”.
