PPL is once again supporting this year’s London Folkfest, the four-day (5-8 June) annual celebration of the very best in new and emerging acts from the acoustic and folk world, returning this June at South London’s leading live music venue, The Bedford.
The Bedford has an unrivalled reputation for working with artists at the start of their career who then go on to achieve significant success. Paolo Nutini, Ed Sheeran, Newton Faulkner and James Morrison are among the “Alumni” who played their early shows at The Bedford.
Now in its fourth year, 2014’s headline acts include The Dunwells, Beth Rowley, Luke Concannon (Nizlopi), Jon Gomm, Crowns, Emily Barker, Bridie Jackson And The Arbour and Polly Paulusma In addition there will also be three days of “Folkfest Insight Seminars” - dedicated to de-mystifying the process of writing, recording and releasing music.
PPL Insight Seminar
Taking place on Thursday 5 June, 2pm, PPL will be hosting a ‘Protecting Your Rights’ panel as part of Folkfest’s daytime Insight Seminar programme. The session will be hosted by PPL’s Member Services team and Director of Performer Affairs, Keith Harris.
Keith and his team will give an overview of how performers and record rights holders can maximise their earning potential from recorded music, in an age where performance rights are becoming an increasingly important source of income for musicians and performers. Representatives from PPL’s Member Services team will also be available to give an overview of:
• Practical advice on using self-service system myPPL
• How to register repertoire online and make claims
• Earning international and digital royalties
PPL’s Member Services team will be on hand after the seminar for a Q&A session and to give attendees the opportunity to seek one-on-one advice.
Tickets for The London Folkfest range from £5 for an Insight Seminar, to £12.50 for Day Ticket, and £29.75 for a Three Day Festival Pass. All tickets are available at: thelondonfolkfest.com

Folkfest founder and creative director Tony Moore said “I am thrilled that The London Folkfest has achieved so much since we began. We are really looking forward to presenting an even more exciting and musically diverse event this year.
“Having worked with thousands of performers over many years, I feel it’s organisations like PPL that make sure those performers are paid fairly for their work. Their session on maximising royalties is a must for anyone interested in making a living from music.”
