PPL data finds love for Calvin Harris

Through analysing UK airplay data reported to PPL, our specialist Repertoire team were able to reveal Calvin Harris as the most played Scottish artist of the 21st century.

At PPL, we are able to analyse tracks broadcasters are playing on the airwaves. Our highly skilled Repertoire team is able to review trends and reveal interesting facts about what is being played on UK radio and TV.

To celebrate the impact of Scotland’s creative output on the wider UK music industry, and to coincide with our presence at Edinburgh’s Wide Days and our very own #PPLinSession in Glasgow, PPL undertook the process of analysing Scotland’s radio and TV airplay data for the 21st century. We discovered that a recording by or featuring Calvin Harris is broadcast every six minutes in the UK and, in total, Calvin has accrued the equivalent of five years of continuous airplay.

To announce his position as the most played Scottish artist of the 21st century, PPL provided statistics to The Official Vodafone Big Top 40 chart show to surprise him with the news.
