Creative Rights in AI Coalition calls on government to protect copyright as generative AI policy develops
38 British creative groups have urged the government to protect copyright rules as generative AI policy develops.
PPL is a member of the newly established Creative Rights in AI Coalition.
The coalition of rights holders including publishers, authors, artists, music producers, specialist interest publications, unions, and photographers, is calling on the government to spur growth in the creative and tech sectors by protecting copyright as generative AI policy develops.
The coalition has published three key principles for copyright and generative AI policy as part of a statement issued today. Together, we are looking to the government to adopt these as a framework for developing AI policy.
The three principles focus on:
- A dynamic licensing market with robust protections for copyright.
- Control and transparency for content creators.
- Driving growth and innovation in the creative and tech sectors.
New, nationally representative polling from Reset Tech and YouGov, found that the public overwhelmingly back transparency in the training of AI models and the payment of royalties to content creators by tech firms.
In the statement, the coalition said: “Ours is a positive vision, a vision of collaboration between the creative industries and generative AI developers, where we can all flourish in the online marketplace. We call on the government and the tech sector to join us in building a future that values, protects, and promotes human creativity.”
