Audio, video & label search

PPL and VPL (our sister company) have repertoire databases of over 28 million commercially released audio recordings and over 50,000 music videos.

It is important to ensure you have the correct permissions in place before using any of the sound recording and/or music videos in the PPL and VPL databases. You can find more information on the licences that PPL and VPL are able to grant here.

VPL is our sister company whose day-to-day operations are undertaken by PPL. VPL licenses music videos when they are played in public or broadcast on TV and distributes the fees paid by licensees to music video rightsholders.

The licensing of music videos to be played in public at gyms, shops, offices and other commercial premises is covered by TheMusicLicence, available from PPL PRS. Visit the PPL PRS website for more information and to apply.

VPL’s archive of music videos is one of the largest in Europe. It starts in 1961 with the Shadows hit ‘Apache’ and is constantly updated with new music videos as they are released and their rightsholders register them with us.

Registered users can search and source digital copies of music videos to broadcast them or play them in public. Users must have the appropriate licence for video use in place before they can purchase music videos from the PPL video store.

The PPL Member/Label Search facility is designed for use primarily by PPL’s licensees to check the identity of PPL’s Record Company Members and their respective labels.
