Do I need a licence?

You’ll need a licence if your commercial radio station:

  • broadcasts nationally, regionally or locally on AM, FM, DAB and DTT
  • includes a variety of both music and non-music (e.g. talk, news, weather, travel) content in its broadcast output
  • is funded by third-party revenues such as advertising or sponsorship

If your radio station broadcasts on satellite, please email us at radiobroadcasting@ppluk.com to discuss your requirements further.

How much does it cost?

The fees under this licence are the greater of the minimum per platform
fee(s) or a share of Net Broadcasting Revenue (85% of gross broadcasting revenue). You can view full details in the licence fee summary.

What reporting is required?

Licensees will need to provide PPL with quarterly revenue reports and details of the tracks they play.
